After films like Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu, Nagarjuna is pretty much the first choice for playing roles with a devotional touch in them. Now, there’s a strong buzz in the Telugu industry that Nagarjuna is teaming up with K Raghavendra Rao to make a film on Sai Baba. Sources say Nagarjuna will play the role of Shirdi Sai Baba. Apparently, the actor has already heard the script. Mightily impressed, he is said to have given the go-ahead for the project.
Taking the devotional route seems to be a suresh hot way for Nagarjuna to box-office success. His recent commerical movies after Sri Ramadasu, Boss I Love You, Don, King, Kedi and Gaganam did not have a great impact at the box-office. Now, it is said that Nagarjuna wants to score a hat-trick with Rao as Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu were big hits. The actor is currently acting in a period film, Rajanna, and another socio-fantasy Damarukam.
An official announcement about this new project is expected to be made soon. While everyone is waiting for the announcement, some reports say the film could even be about Satya Sai Baba, said to be the re-incarnation of Shirdi Sai.
The news assumes significance as the 86-year-old Satya Sai Baba has been hospitalised since March 28 following problems related to heart and respiration. Raghavendra Rao has more than 100 films to his credit, including some all-time blockbuster hits like Adavi Ramudu, Major Chandrakanth and Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundar.
